I went to visit Great Grandma & Great Grandpa out at St. Laurent. They got married in the old church here in 1953. Great Grandpa took me for a tour on his golf cart. Even though I am a buddhist at heart I appreciate the history. My Metis ancestors along with the Cree Indians and missionaries used this site as a meeting place and devoted their time to teaching religion and schooling the Aboriginal people. After the rebellion in 1885 and the fire that destroyed the covenant in 1890 the place was virtually left to go to ruins. Brother Guillet, crippled, made a novena and a shrine to pray to our Lady at the St. Laurent Mission. He was cured and returned to his missions, frequently returning to St.Laurent and the annual pilgrimage began.
